The best-cooled case we build in, in black, with the graphics card taking the lion's share of the budget

Torden One puts a Radeon RX 9070 with 16GB into the Fractal Meshify 3 Ambience Pro, and then spends the rest of the money on getting the air right. A full mesh front with three 140mm intakes, a moulded scoop in the floor that aims cool air straight at the graphics card, and an NZXT Kraken Plus 240 in the roof taking the processor's heat out of the top on a separate path.

The Ryzen 5 7500F behind it is the deliberate part. It is the same Zen 4 silicon as the chips above it with the integrated graphics switched off, which nobody with a discrete card was ever going to use, and at 1440p it is not what limits this machine. The card is. That is the way round we wanted it.

Torden is the black sibling of our Luftstrom series and it comes in two tiers rather than the usual three. That is deliberate too. This is an expensive case, and putting an entry-level graphics card behind it would mean charging you a good deal for airflow you would never use.

🧬 Built to last, designed to evolve

Built on AMD's AM5 platform, which AMD have committed to supporting into 2027 and beyond, so the processor can be replaced without touching anything else. The board has four DDR5 slots with two free and three M.2 slots with two free, so memory and storage both grow by addition rather than replacement. The case takes graphics cards up to 349mm and has fan and radiator positions still unused. This is a machine designed to be kept.

  • The same silicon as the Ryzen 5 7600 with the integrated graphics disabled. If you have a discrete card, and you do, you were never going to use them. That is the entire difference, and it is worth real money
  • At 1440p with a card of this class the graphics card is the limit in almost everything. Spending more on the processor here would buy frames you cannot see
  • 65W is a modest heat load for a 240mm liquid cooler, so the fans spend their lives turning slowly
  • Socket AM5, so the 7800X3D upgrade below is a drop-in change whenever you want it

  • A 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler with a copper split-flow coldplate, a Turbine pump running 1,200 to 2,800rpm, and 400mm braided tubing. Mounted in the top of the case as exhaust
  • The pump cap carries a 240 by 240 pixel colour LCD. It will show live temperatures, or your own images and animated GIFs, and it is the one piece of visual personality in an otherwise very restrained machine
  • The radiator fans are not the ones NZXT supply. We take them off and fit Fractal Momentum 12 ARGB fans instead, so every fan in the machine is from the same family and runs from the same hub. More on that in the case cooling section below
  • Two hundred and forty millimetres of radiator against a 65W processor is a lot of cooler for the job, which is the point. Surface area is what buys quiet
  • It also keeps the processor's heat off the graphics card. An air cooler dumps warm air into the chassis; a top-mounted radiator sends it straight out through the roof. Front in, top and rear out
  • Mounted with thermal paste applied by hand rather than a pre-applied pad. Tube routing and pump orientation are set so no air can collect at the pump, which is the thing that shortens an AIO's life

  • 12-phase teamed Vcore VRM, comfortably more than the 7500F needs and enough to run any AM5 Ryzen properly, including the 9800X3D. The board will not be the limiting factor when you upgrade the CPU later

  • DDR5-6000 is the speed Ryzen on AM5 runs best at. It keeps the memory controller and the memory running in step with each other, and going faster on paper often makes it slower in practice
  • 32GB is the right amount at this level and comfortably more than any current game needs, with plenty spare for a browser, Discord and a stream alongside
  • Two of the board's four slots are free, so going to 64GB later is a matter of adding a pair rather than throwing away what is in there

  • TLC rather than QLC. TLC holds its speed through long sustained writes where a cheaper QLC drive slows down once its cache fills, and it has better write endurance. On a machine at this level that is the right side of the line to be on
  • We fit 1TB as standard across the whole range rather than varying it by price, so comparing our machines to each other is straightforward. The 2TB option below is worth a thought if you keep a lot of large games installed

  • RDNA 4, 56 compute units, 16GB of GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus, 220W typical board power
  • Sixteen gigabytes at this price is the headline. Several current titles will use more than 8GB at 1440p with textures turned up, and VRAM is the thing that ages a card fastest. This one has room to sit still for years
  • RDNA 4 is the generation where ray tracing on a Radeon stopped being a compromise. The ray accelerators are substantially rebuilt and the gap to NVIDIA at this tier has closed to the point where it is a preference rather than a decision
  • FSR 4 upscaling, which is a machine learning model rather than the older spatial approach, and a real step up in image quality
  • AV1 encode and decode for streaming and recording
  • 220W is modest for the performance, and in a case with this much airflow the card has an easy life. That combination is most of why this machine is quiet

  • The reason this series exists. Full mesh front panel with dust filtering, plus an air guide and a moulded scoop in the floor that directs intake air onto the graphics card instead of letting it wander
  • Three 140mm Momentum intake fans included. Most cases at any price ship with 120mm fans, and a 140mm fan moves more air per revolution, so it can spin slower for the same result

  • Every fan in this machine is a Fractal Momentum. The three 140mm intakes come with the case; we fit a 120mm Momentum 12 ARGB at the rear and swap the Kraken's own radiator fans for two more of the same
  • That is not just about how it looks, though it does look like one machine rather than three. The Momentum fans daisy-chain on Fractal Connect into the Adjust Pro Hub, so the whole set is one lighting system with one controller and no software. Mixing fan brands would mean two lighting systems and an app to reconcile them
  • The Momentum 12 runs 350 to 2,200rpm on a fluid dynamic bearing, moving 62 CFM at 2.42 mmH2O and rated at 28 dBA. They are a genuine step above the fans usually bundled with an AIO
  • Front in, top and rear out, which is the configuration this case was designed around. Slight positive pressure by design, so air enters through the filtered front rather than being pulled in through every gap. In practice that means noticeably less dust inside a year from now
  • Six fans in total, all tuned to a manual curve before dispatch rather than left on the motherboard's defaults
  • Fan curves are set by hand and verified through our standard stress testing rather than assumed. Honest expectation setting: a 220W card in a case with this much airflow is an easy job. This is one of the quietest machines we make at this performance level, near silent at the desktop and moderate under load

  • 850W against a build that draws around 340W under a heavy gaming load. AMD's own recommendation for the RX 9070 is 650W, so this is real headroom rather than just enough

👁️ Transparency notes

• The cooler's LCD screen needs NZXT CAM installed to do most of what it can do (click or tap to read more)

  This is the one place where this build asks something of you. Without NZXT CAM running, the pump holds a fixed speed of around 80 percent and the screen shows liquid temperature and nothing else. With CAM installed you get your own images and GIFs, a choice of readouts, and dynamic pump and fan curves. We set the machine up so it is perfectly happy either way, and we tune the fan curves in the BIOS so they do not depend on it. But if you are the sort of person who would rather have nothing extra running in the background, you should know that the screen is the part that suffers. The case lighting is separate and needs no software at all.

• There are two control systems in this machine, and only one of them needs software (click or tap to read more)

  The case lighting, including all six fans, runs from Fractal's Adjust Pro Hub. That is configured once and remembered by the hub, with nothing installed on your PC. The cooler's screen is NZXT's and uses CAM. We would rather have one system than two, but no single manufacturer makes both the case we want and the screen we want. Fitting Momentum fans on the radiator is what keeps the lighting side down to one system rather than two.

  The Meshify 3 Ambience Pro costs several times what a budget chassis costs, and it earns that on airflow and build quality. But putting an entry-level graphics card inside it would mean asking you to pay a lot for cooling headroom you would never use. If you want a machine below this price, our Coquette or Secret series will serve you better and we would rather point you there than sell you an expensive box with a small card in it.

  The Kraken ships with two of NZXT's own 120mm fans. We remove them and fit Fractal Momentum 12 ARGB fans instead, so the whole machine runs one family of fans on one lighting hub. The NZXT fans are perfectly good and are not faulty in any way; they simply do not match. They stay with us rather than being shipped as spares, and that is reflected in the price you are paying.

• RGB heatspreaders on the RAM are not guaranteed unless the quick add-on is chosen - this is due to industry-wide supply constraints on memory
