The one where the case starts earning its keep

Obsidian Two puts a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and an RTX 5070 Ti behind two panes of glass. That is a genuine 1440p ultra machine that will also run 4K properly, in a case that separates everything worth looking at from everything that is not.

The 2500X is a dual chamber design. Motherboard, processor, cooler and graphics card live on the left behind the glass. Power supply, drives and the entire cable loom live on the right behind a mesh panel. It is a better way to build a computer and a slower one, because there is no bad angle to hide a shortcut behind.

Cooling is a 240mm liquid cooler in the roof, three fans we chose ourselves, and a deliberate decision about where not to put fans. All of that is explained below rather than listed.

🧬 Built to last, designed to evolve

This system is built on AMD's latest AM5 platform, which offers one of the best upgrade paths available today. That means you can start with a great processor now and still have room to move up the stack later, while keeping the same motherboard, case, power supply and most of your core components. The 7800X3D here is already close to the top of AM5 for gaming, so the upgrade path is really about the graphics card, and the 850W supply and 400mm of clearance are sized with that in mind.

  • The chip that made X3D the default recommendation for gaming. That cache means the processor spends far less time waiting on memory, and it shows up in frame times and 1% lows rather than just benchmark averages
  • Remarkably efficient with it. In games it draws well under 100W while performing like a chip that draws far more, which is why a 240mm cooler is genuinely sufficient here rather than a compromise
  • Worth knowing: the 7800X3D is not overclocked by raising multipliers, because AMD limit voltage on the stacked cache for good reason. It responds instead to a per-core Curve Optimiser undervolt, which is what our optimisation options do

  • A 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler with two 120mm ARGB PWM fans, mounted in the roof of the case as exhaust
  • Top mounted, and that is Corsair's own instruction rather than our preference. The 2500X will physically take a radiator in the base, but Corsair specifically advise against it: it causes premature pump wear, worse thermals and more noise, because air collects at the pump instead of the highest point of the loop. We follow that
  • 240mm is comfortably enough for a 7800X3D. This is not a hot chip, it is a fast one, and a larger radiator would buy a couple of degrees you would never see
  • The front of this case is glass, so there is no front radiator position at all. The roof is where an AIO goes in a 2500X, and it works well there
  • Liquid cooling adds real assembly time compared with a tower cooler, particularly in a dual chamber case where the tubing has to be routed without crossing the glass. That work is included in the price rather than added to it

  • 8+2+1 phase Dr.MOS power design. Plain English translation: substantially more power delivery than a 7800X3D asks for. X3D chips are limited by voltage rather than current, so this board is never the constraint
  • PCIe 5.0 x16 for the graphics card, steel reinforced. Worth stating plainly, because Gen5 graphics slots are optional on the B850 chipset and plenty of boards only give you Gen4. This is the real thing, and the metal bracing matters with a card of this weight
  • Three M.2 slots, the first PCIe Gen5 x4 and the other two Gen4 x4, so two stay free for drives you add later
  • Four DDR5 slots supporting up to 256GB, two of them free on this build
  • Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet. Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6GHz band, and 2.5G wired is a real step up from the gigabit ports on most boards at this price

  • Two matched sticks in dual channel. On an X3D processor the memory matters a little less than it does on a normal chip, because the cache absorbs much of it, but dual channel is the right call at this tier regardless
  • 32GB is comfortable headroom for gaming, streaming and creative work at once, and two slots stay free if you ever want more

  • 16GB of GDDR7 on a 256-bit bus. This is the point in NVIDIA's range where 4K stops being an aspiration and becomes something you can just select
  • Very high refresh 1440p at ultra settings, and genuine 4K at high settings in modern AAA titles
  • DLSS 4 with multi frame generation, and the ray tracing hardware to make path traced games playable rather than theoretical. This is where NVIDIA's lead over Radeon is real and worth paying for
  • NVENC for streaming and recording, which is the encoder most streaming software prefers and handles best
  • Around 300W under load, comfortably inside what this case and this power supply handle
  • The case takes cards up to 400mm long, which no 5070 Ti comes close to, so card choice here is genuinely unrestricted

  • 376 × 469 × 304mm, roughly 54 litres. Micro-ATX, with four expansion slots
  • Dual chamber. The left side, behind the glass, holds the motherboard, processor, cooler and graphics card. The right side, behind a mesh panel, holds the power supply, the drives and every cable. The two are separated by the motherboard tray
  • Tempered glass on the front and the left side, lightly smoke tinted. Mesh on the right, with a dust filter over the power supply intake
  • Around 100mm of space behind the motherboard tray, which is genuinely exceptional for a case this size and is what makes the cable chamber work

  • The 2500X ships with no fans at all. Not a reduced set, none. Every fan in this machine is one we have chosen and fitted, and that is a cost we absorb rather than a corner we cut
  • Reverse-blade fans on the intakes, which is worth explaining. A normal fan shows you its frame and its wiring from the front. A reverse-blade fan is built the other way round, so the blade face is what you see through the glass. With two glass panels that is the difference between looking finished and looking assembled
  • Two intakes in the side position, one exhaust at the rear, and the radiator exhausting through the roof. Cool air enters alongside the graphics card, and heat leaves upward and backward
  • The bottom mounts are left empty on purpose. Fans will physically fit down there, but in this chassis they sit so close to the underside of the graphics card that they have very little room to breathe and contribute much less than the mount count suggests. We would rather fit fans where they work than where they look busy. If you specifically want them, slim fans are the answer and we can do it, see the upgrade options
  • Worth knowing what fans are actually worth here: independent testing of this case found that adding fans was worth around 7°C on processor temperatures, while removing the glass panels entirely was worth about 1°C. The glass is not what limits this case
  • Fan curves are set by hand before dispatch and verified through our standard stress testing rather than assumed

  • 850W with a 300W graphics card and a sub-100W processor means the unit spends its life in the quiet, efficient middle of its range rather than working near the top of it
  • Fully modular, so only the cables this build uses are installed. In a dual chamber case that is worth having: everything not fitted is one less thing to fold into the rear chamber
  • ATX 3.1 with a native 12V-2x6 connector, so the card plugs straight in with no adaptor. All PC36 power supplies of 750W and above are ATX 3.1 certified

  • Being straight about the ceiling. The 7800X3D cannot be overclocked by multiplier, so the CPU portion here is an undervolt rather than a clock increase. The real gain is on the graphics card, where a 5070 Ti has genuine headroom and this case has the airflow to support it. It is no longer something we can source reliably, so every Obsidian we build now uses the standard black case, which is otherwise identical in every dimension and every feature.   We leave the bottom mounts empty as standard because standard-depth fans there sit very close to the underside of the graphics card and achieve less than the mount count implies. Slim fans change that arithmetic: they give the card meaningfully more room to breathe and they do add cool air directly where the heat is. Worth considering if you plan to overclock the card, if the machine will live somewhere warm, or simply if you like the look of a full set through the glass.
