Obsidian One is built in the Corsair 2500X, a dual chamber case with tempered glass across the front and down one side. Everything you are meant to see sits in the left chamber. Everything you are not, the power supply, the drives and the whole cable loom, lives behind the motherboard tray in the right chamber where nobody has to look at it.

That layout is the reason this case is worth building in. It is also the reason it takes longer to build in, because there is nowhere to hide a lazy cable run.

Inside it is a sensible 1440p machine: a Ryzen 5 7500F and a Radeon RX 9060 XT with 16GB of memory, on a board with a full PCIe 5.0 slot and room for two more drives.

This system is built on AMD's latest AM5 platform, which offers one of the best upgrade paths available today. That means you can start with a great processor now and still have room to move up the stack later, while keeping the same motherboard, case, power supply and most of your core components. The case takes graphics cards up to 400mm and the power supply is deliberately larger than this build needs, so the obvious upgrade in a couple of years is a straight swap rather than a rebuild.

  • At 1440p with this class of graphics card, the card is what sets your frame rate, not the processor. Spending more here would not show up on screen

  • The 2500X takes coolers up to 180mm tall, which is unusually generous for a micro-ATX case, so there is a great deal of room here if you upgrade the processor later

  • EXPO-tuned DDR5-6000 CL36, the speed and timing combination Ryzen responds to best on AM5. We fit CL36 rather than the slower CL40 kits often used at this price
  • One stick rather than two, and that is a deliberate choice worth understanding. A single module runs in single channel, which costs a few percent in some games. What you get in exchange is three empty slots and a genuine upgrade path: add a matching 16GB stick later and you have 32GB in dual channel, for the price of one stick. Buy a 2x8GB kit instead and you throw the whole thing away to upgrade
  • DDR5 pricing is currently the most volatile thing in a build like this. Fitting one stick is how we keep this machine at this price without cutting the graphics card, which is the part you would actually notice

  • RDNA 4 with 16GB of GDDR6. The memory is the headline here: 16GB at this price is unusual, and it is what stops the card running out of room in texture-heavy games at 1440p while cards with 8GB start stuttering
  • Comfortable 1440p at high settings in modern titles, and very high frame rates in competitive games at 1080p or 1440p

  • Dual chamber. The left side, behind the glass, holds the motherboard, processor, cooler and graphics card. The right side, behind a mesh panel, holds the power supply, the drives and every cable. The two are separated by the motherboard tray

  • The 2500X ships with no fans at all. Not a reduced set, none. Every fan in this machine is one we have chosen and fitted, and that is a cost we absorb rather than a corner we cut
  • Reverse-blade fans on the intakes, which is a detail worth explaining. A normal fan shows you its frame and its wiring from the front. A reverse-blade fan is built the other way round so the blade face is what you see through the glass. In a case with two glass panels that is the difference between looking finished and looking assembled
  • Two intakes in the side position and one exhaust at the rear. Air comes in alongside the graphics card and leaves past the processor cooler
  • The bottom mounts are left empty on purpose. Fans will physically fit down there, but in this chassis they sit so close to the underside of the graphics card that they have very little room to breathe and contribute much less than the mount count suggests. We would rather fit three fans where they work than five where two of them are decoration
  • Worth knowing what fans are actually worth here: independent testing of this case found that adding fans was worth around 7°C on processor temperatures, while removing the glass panels entirely was worth about 1°C. The glass is not what limits this case. Empty fan mounts are, and this one does not have any that matter
  • Fan curves are set by hand before dispatch and verified through our standard stress testing rather than assumed

  • 750W is far more than this build draws. That is intentional. A 7500F and a 9060 XT together pull well under 300W in normal use, so the supply spends its whole life in the quiet, efficient middle of its range rather than working hard
  • The real reason for the headroom is upgrades. This unit will run an RTX 5070, an RX 9070 or an RX 9070 XT without being replaced, so a graphics card upgrade in two years is a fifteen minute job
  • ATX 3.1 certified, which means it is built to handle the sudden power spikes modern graphics cards produce without shutting the machine down. All PC36 power supplies of 750W and above are ATX 3.1 certified
  • This is a fixed cable unit, and this case is the reason it works. On most dual chamber cases we would insist on a modular supply, because the spare cables end up in the same compartment you are trying to keep tidy. The 2500X's rear chamber is unusually deep, with about 100mm behind the tray, so there is genuine room to fold the excess away where the glass never sees it

👁️ Transparency notes

• The photographs show the woodgrain version of this case. The build is now the plain black one. Corsair sell the 2500X with an optional walnut front and roof, and that is what is in our gallery. It is no longer something we can source reliably, so every Obsidian we build now uses the standard black case, which is otherwise identical in every dimension and every feature. We are photographing a black build and the images will be replaced. Until then, look at the black case rather than the wood when you picture yours. If the woodgrain is specifically what you wanted, talk to us on live chat before you order and we will tell you honestly whether we can get one.
• The case comes with no fans, so all three are ours. Mentioned because the fan count is part of what you are buying here and it is not a Corsair figure. Two reverse-blade intakes in the side position and one exhaust at the rear.
• One memory stick, not two. This build ships with a single 16GB module, which runs in single channel and costs a few percent in some games against a matched pair. In exchange you get three free slots, so adding a second 16GB stick later gives 32GB in dual channel without discarding anything. If you would rather have 32GB from the start, take the option below.
• Ray tracing is the weak spot of this graphics card. Radeon has closed a lot of ground with RDNA 4 but NVIDIA is still ahead on ray tracing specifically. Ray traced games are playable at 1440p with FSR 4 enabled. If ray tracing is the reason you are buying, tell us and we will point you at something better suited.
• The front USB-C port runs at 5Gbps, not 10. The case is wired for 10, but the motherboard's front panel header is 5Gbps, which is true of essentially every micro-ATX board at this price. The rear USB-C is the full 10Gbps. Only relevant if you use fast external storage on the front port.
• The glass is smoke tinted. It looks superb in a lit room and it dims the interior in a dark one. If you want the lighting to read strongly at night, that is worth knowing before you order.

  We leave the bottom mounts empty as standard because standard-depth fans there sit very close to the underside of the graphics card and achieve less than the mount count implies. Slim fans change that arithmetic and give the card more room to breathe. On this tier the thermal gain is small, since a 9060 XT is not a hot card, so take it if you like the look of a full set through the glass rather than because the machine needs it.
