Most PCs are designed to be admired by other people who like PCs. Nord One is not. The front is real walnut, cut into slats over a steel mesh, and the side is dark tinted glass. There is no lighting anywhere inside it unless you ask us for some. It is the machine you put in a room you actually sit in.

What it does behind the wood is play modern games at 1440p properly and quietly: a Ryzen 5 7500F, a Radeon RX 9060 XT with 16GB, and two 140mm intakes drawing air straight through the walnut. Nothing exotic, nothing that needs explaining away.

One thing worth saying before you buy. Our Aegis One is the same processor and the same card in a plainer case for a hundred pounds less. If how the machine looks in the room is worth that to you, this is the one.

🧬 Built to last, designed to evolve

This system is built on AMD's latest AM5 platform, which offers one of the best upgrade paths available today. That means you can start with a great processor now and still have room to move up the stack later, while keeping the same motherboard, case, power supply and most of your core components. The power supply on this build is deliberately larger than this graphics card needs, so a step up to a considerably faster card later is a straight swap rather than a rebuild.

  • 6 cores, 12 threads of Zen 4, boosting to 5.0GHz, with 32MB of L3 cache
  • The 7500F is the 7600 without the integrated graphics, and because you are fitting a graphics card anyway, that omission costs you nothing and saves real money. It is the most sensible processor in the AM5 range for a build at this price and it is what we fit across the whole entry tier
  • 65W TDP, though in practice it boosts past that and will pull around 88W with every core loaded. That is still a modest heat load, and the tower cooler fitted handles it without ever becoming something you can hear
  • At 1440p with this class of graphics card, the card is what sets your frame rate, not the processor. Spending more here would not show up on screen
  • AM5 is a live socket. When you do want more processor, a 7800X3D or a 9800X3D drops straight in without touching anything else

  • A tower cooler with 4 × 6mm direct-touch nickel-plated copper heatpipes running through 51 aluminium fins, under a TL-C12C 120mm PWM fan. It is rated to 225W against a processor that peaks nearer 88W, so it is not merely adequate here, it is comfortable, and that is why the fan stays slow
  • The fan runs to 1550rpm and 66.17 CFM at 1.53 mmH₂O of static pressure, and is rated at 25.6 dBA flat out. On this build it spends its life a long way below that
  • We fit the plain black version rather than the ARGB one. It costs us the same and it suits a build with no lighting in it. Behind dark tinted glass, a lit-up cooler would be the only thing you noticed
  • It does not overhang the memory slots, so all four stay usable if you add a second stick later
  • Mounted with Arctic MX-4 paste, applied by hand rather than using the pre-applied pad coolers ship with
  • 148mm tall, and the North takes coolers up to 170mm, so if you upgrade the processor later there is room for something far bigger

  • 12+2+1 phase DRPS power delivery with a digital PWM controller, fed by two CPU power connectors. Plain English translation: far more power delivery than this build asks for, and enough to run any AM5 Ryzen at full tilt years from now without the board becoming the weak link. MSI do not publish an amperage figure for these stages and we are not going to invent one
  • AMD B850 on a full-size ATX board. Four DDR5 slots supporting up to 256GB and rated beyond DDR5-8200 with EXPO, so memory can be expanded later without replacing the kit you already have
  • PCIe 4.0 x16 for the graphics card, in a steel-reinforced slot, with a tool-free release clip so the card can be removed without reaching blind past the cooler. Two further slots below it
  • Two M.2 slots, both wired straight to the processor: one PCIe 5.0 with a heatsink, one PCIe 4.0. One is used here, leaving room for a second drive.   • EXPO-tuned DDR5-6000 CL36, the speed and timing combination Ryzen responds to best on AM5. We fit CL36 rather than the slower CL40 kits often used at this price
  • One stick rather than two, and we will explain the reasoning properly rather than gloss over it. DDR5 pricing is unusually high at the moment. A second stick adds a meaningful amount to a machine at this price, and fitting one is how we keep the 16GB graphics card in the build without the total climbing
  • The honest numbers. A single DDR5 stick is not penalised the way a single DDR4 stick was, because each DDR5 module runs two independent sub-channels internally rather than one. The gap against a matched pair is real but small: roughly 4 to 9 percent in genuinely processor-intensive games, and close to nothing everywhere else. In the games this build is bought for, the graphics card is the limit long before the memory is
  • If you would rather have dual channel from day one, ask us on live chat and we will fit 2×8GB for a small supplement. We would not usually recommend it: a pair of 8GB sticks costs more than the single 16GB and leaves you at the same 16GB.   • RDNA 4 with 16GB of GDDR6. The memory is the headline here: 16GB at this price is unusual, and it is what stops the card running out of room in texture-heavy games at 1440p while cards with 8GB start stuttering

  • 447 × 215 × 469mm. Steel chassis, real American black walnut front slats, and a dark tinted tempered glass side panel. The walnut is genuine wood, not a printed finish, so every one is slightly different
  • The wood is not just decoration. Behind the slats sit a steel mesh and a nylon dust filter, and the front intake pulls air straight through the gaps between them. The whole front panel lifts off to clean the filter
  • Brass-coloured accents on the power button and the front trim, which is the detail that stops it looking like a black box with a plank on it

  • The North ships with two Fractal Aspect 14 PWM fans already in the front, drawing cool air in through the walnut. They are proper PWM fans, not the three-pin fans usually bundled at this price, so they can be slowed right down when the machine is idle
  • It does not ship with a rear fan, which surprises most people who buy one. Every Nord we build gets a 120mm exhaust fitted at the back as standard. Without it the warm air coming off the cooler has nowhere sensible to go. It costs us very little and it is not something you should have to notice
  • The glass-panel version of this case does not include Fractal's fan hub, which only comes with the mesh-panel model. With three fans that makes no practical difference, so we wire them to the motherboard headers and tune the curves there instead. Worth knowing if you ever add more fans yourself
  • All fans are plain black and non-RGB, matched to the rest of the build. Fan curves are set by hand before dispatch and verified through our standard stress testing
  • This is a genuinely quiet machine. A 65W processor and a 160W graphics card in a 45 litre case with three fans is not a difficult thermal problem, and the tinted glass side panel is slightly quieter than the mesh alternative

  • 750W is far more than this build draws. That is intentional. A 7500F and a 9060 XT together pull well under 300W in normal use, so the supply spends its whole life in the quiet, efficient middle of its range rather than working hard
  • The real reason for the headroom is upgrades. This unit will run an RTX 5070, an RX 9070 or an RX 9070 XT without being replaced, so a graphics card upgrade in two years is a fifteen minute job rather than a rebuild
  • ATX 3.1 certified, which means it is built to handle the sudden power spikes modern graphics cards produce without shutting the machine down. All PC36 power supplies of 750W and above are ATX 3.1 certified

  Worth it only if you play CPU-limited games at high refresh rates, such as competitive shooters at 1080p or heavily modded simulation games. At 1440p with this graphics card you would not see the difference, because the card is what sets the frame rate.
