Myk is a concept build - we're always on the hunt for new design styles and often build one-off PCs to get a feel of how they turn out. We loved the diffused RGB light bar across the bottom rim of this Powercool case, and the smaller mATX fishtank design. We felt it was worth a high end system, hence Myk was born.

The aesthetic befits the spec inside. The fastest gaming CPU money can buy, the truly high-end RTX 5080, and memory that runs near the edge of what's possible on AMD. The ratios are tuned and verified on the bench rather than assumed. It's the prototype for a series we are developing, and we built it partly to photograph it, because a machine like this is more convincing standing on a desk than described in a paragraph.

🧬 Built to last, designed to evolve

This system is built on AMD's latest AM5 platform, which offers one of the best upgrade paths available today. That means you can start with a great processor now and still have room to move up the stack later, while keeping the same motherboard, case, power supply and most of your core components. On this build the processor is already the fastest gaming part AMD sell, so what the upgrade path really buys you is the freedom to change the graphics card in a few years without touching anything else. The board also carries a free PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot and two free memory slots, so storage and memory both grow by addition rather than replacement.

  • 8 cores, 16 threads of Zen 5, 4.7GHz base and 5.6GHz boost, with 96MB of 3D V-Cache taking the total to 104MB. 120W TDP, and boost behaviour normally takes it above that with every core loaded, which is exactly what the 280mm cooler in the roof is there to absorb
  • This is the fastest gaming processor AMD currently make. We want to be precise about that claim rather than let it inflate: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D costs more and has twice the cores, but it does not beat this chip in games. It buys you productivity, not frames. For gaming specifically, nothing sits above the part in this machine
  • The cache is the whole point. Games are unusually sensitive to memory latency, and a very large L3 cache means the processor spends less time waiting on memory and more time producing frames. This is why an eight core X3D chip outruns sixteen core parts in games while losing to them in rendering
  • The 3D V-Cache sits underneath the cores on this generation rather than on top of them, which is why these chips clock and cool far better than the first generation did, and why this one is fully unlocked for overclocking
  • Against the 9800X3D that most of our high end machines use, the gain is real but modest: the same 8 cores and the same 96MB of cache, with 400MHz more boost. Expect a small single-digit percentage in games rather than a transformation. We would rather tell you that than imply otherwise

  • The 9850X3D runs at 110-180 watts at max load. This cooler is rated for 270W+. That means plenty of cooling headroom to get excellent boost clocks from your 9850X3D
  • Both the fans and the pump cap are lit, with a magnetic pump face featuring the Corsair logo
  • The pump and fans are tuned by us to balance noise and cooling ability
  • These are considered excellent coolers, befitting a high end machine

  • AMD B850 on a micro-ATX board, socket AM5, with a 12+2+1 Dr.MOS power design under an enlarged VRM heatsink
  • PCIe 5.0 x16 to the graphics card. The 5080 does not need it today, but it means the slot is not what dates this machine
  • Three M.2 slots and only one is used. The occupied slot is the PCIe 5.0 one; of the two free slots, one is a full Gen4 x4 and one is a Gen4 x2. Worth knowing which is which if you add a fast drive later, and worth saying plainly rather than listing "3 x M.2" and leaving you to find out
  • Four DDR5 slots supporting up to 256GB, with two free. Both XMP and EXPO profiles are supported

  • A matched pair at DDR5-6400 CL32 with EXPO, lit along the top edge to match the rest of the build
  • The "1:1" is the part worth understanding. On Ryzen 9000 the memory controller can run in step with the memory or at half its rate. In step is faster. DDR5-6400 is the top of the window where that is possible, and it is exactly what AMD themselves name as the sweet spot for this generation. Push to 8000 and the controller drops out of step, and you end up with a bigger number and no more frames. This is something we had to enable ourselves - most builders would just click on EXPO without checking this, leading to slower performance. 
  • We verify it rather than assume it. Memory controllers vary from chip to chip, so 6400 in the fast ratio is validated on this machine during testing rather than taken from the box - it is shown confirmed in the screenshot at the end of the photo stack. 
  • 32GB is the right capacity for a machine at this level: comfortable for every current game with a browser, Discord and a capture running alongside, and enough for real creative work
  • Two of the four slots are free, so 64GB later is an addition rather than a replacement

  • This is a truly fantastic SSD, featuring rapid speeds, and a DRAM controller which is highly coveted in today's market
  • Over 7,000MB/s sequential read on a Phison E18 controller, fitted in the board's PCIe 5.0 slot
  • A controller with its own DRAM, which is the specification that actually matters. Cheaper drives leave out the DRAM cache and borrow system memory instead. It looks fine in a benchmark and shows up as inconsistency under sustained load. The E18 is a DRAM-based design and has been one of the more reliable enthusiast controllers of the last few years
  • Rated for 500TB of writes with a five year warranty from Integral, who are a British memory manufacturer rather than a badge on someone else's drive
  • 1TB is the one place this machine is deliberately lean. It is enough for Windows and a rotating handful of large games, and both remaining M.2 slots are free, so adding a second drive later needs no rebuild and nothing thrown away

  • This is a bulky and valuable graphics card, and as such it will be shipped separately with instructions for you to install it upon receipt
  • To be clear about what that means: the card is fitted into this exact system, stress tested in it, and only then carefully removed and boxed for transit. Your machine is built and validated as a whole. We do not drop-ship graphics cards or send you parts to assemble
  • Genuine 4K ultra performance in modern AAA titles, with the ray tracing hardware and DLSS 4 multi frame generation to keep path-traced games playable rather than theoretical
  • 16GB of GDDR7 on a 256-bit bus, feeding textures fast enough that 4K stops being the thing limiting your settings
  • A factory overclocked triple fan card, around 330mm long and three slots wide, drawing roughly 360W under load. That is the largest single heat source in this machine by a wide margin and the reason the side intakes matter more than the cooler does

  • 430 × 285 × 410mm on the outside, or just over 50 litres, which makes it a full size chassis that happens to take a micro-ATX board
  • This is the reason the machine looks the way it does. Two borderless tempered glass panels wrap the front and the side and meet at the corner with no pillar between them, so the build is viewed rather than glimpsed. An ARGB strip runs the full length of the bottom edge and turns the corner with the glass, lighting the machine from underneath instead of from a fan
  • Dual chamber, so the power supply, the cable slack and the drives all live in a separate rear compartment. The side you look at holds the board, the cooler and the card, and nothing else
  • Graphics cards up to 420mm and CPU coolers up to 165mm, which is a great deal of clearance for a micro-ATX chassis
  • Radiator support is 120 to 360mm in the top, up to 240mm on the motherboard side, and 120mm at the rear. The cooler in this build is mounted in the top
  • Front I/O is USB-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and a combined headphone and microphone jack. Two 3.5 inch and one 2.5 inch drive mounts in the rear chamber, and dust filters top and bottom
  • Powercool are not a household name, and we would rather say that than let you find out later. There is an honest note about it below

  • Two 120mm ARGB fans draw air in through the motherboard-side panel and one exhausts at the rear. The 360mm radiator sits in the top with its own 3 x 120mm fans. Six fans in total, all PWM, all on hand-set curves
  • The airflow path is deliberate. Cool air enters at the side directly onto the graphics card, which is the part producing most of the heat, and leaves through the top and the rear. The card is not asked to breathe its own exhaust
  • All fans and the light bar are ARGB and synchronised to the motherboard, so the machine lights as one piece rather than as several parts that happen to be lit
  • Fan curves are set by hand before dispatch and verified through our standard stress testing rather than assumed
  • Being straight about expectations: this is a 360W graphics card and a 120W processor in a micro-ATX case. At idle and in lighter games it is genuinely quiet, helped by the radiator doing the processor's work at low fan speed. Under a sustained heavy load you will hear it, and that is true of any 5080 in any chassis this size

  • Cybenetics Gold efficiency, fully modular, with a 120mm fan that stops entirely below about 40% load
  • Fully modular is doing real work in this case. Only the cables this build actually uses are fitted, and everything else stays in the box. In a dual chamber chassis where the rear compartment is where the slack goes, that is the difference between a tidy build and a stuffed one
  • 850W is the right size for this machine rather than a number chosen to impress. A 360W graphics card and a 120W processor leave comfortable headroom, and a modern unit built to the current ATX specification handles the brief power spikes these cards produce without complaint
  • Seven year warranty from Corsair, which is longer than most units at this level and a fair indication of what they expect from it

This is not that, which means the specification here is the specification: unlike our built-to-order machines we cannot swap the case or the board for you, because this one is already assembled and tested.   We normally build in cases from Fractal, Corsair, Phanteks and the like, and we say so on our Trusted brands page. This one is different, so here is the honest version. Powercool are a UK distributor brand rather than a household case manufacturer, and we picked the Aurora because the wraparound glass and the bottom light bar do something no case from the usual names currently does at this size. Having built in it, the fit and finish are genuinely good: the panels sit properly, the dual chamber layout is well thought out, and the included fans are PWM rather than the three-pin fans normally bundled at this price. What you are not getting is a decade of brand history behind the chassis. Everything inside it is from manufacturers we use every day, the whole machine carries our three year parts and labour warranty regardless of whose badge is on the case, and if a panel or a fan ever failed we would deal with it rather than send you to Powercool.

  Six ARGB fans, a lit pump cap, lit memory and a light bar along the bottom edge. That is the point of the build. It is also more light than some people want in a bedroom at night, so it is worth knowing that all of it is under motherboard control, every part of it can be dimmed, set to a single colour or switched off entirely, and none of it affects how the machine performs.
