Nothing to look at, and that is entirely the idea

Most of what makes a gaming PC look like a gaming PC costs real money and adds nothing to the frame rate. Coquette One is what's left when you take all of it out: a plain black case with a solid front, a tempered glass side, and not a single addressable LED anywhere in it. It sits on a desk without asking for attention, and at the desktop it is close to silent doing it.

What that buys is frames. A Ryzen 5 5600 and an RTX 5050 make a genuinely capable 1080p machine at the price a lot of builders are still asking for something slower. The 5600 is one of the great value processors of the last few years, and the card is current-generation, so DLSS 4 is doing real work here rather than sitting on the box as a feature.

The rest of the build follows the same rule. 16GB of dual channel DDR4 enabled properly in the BIOS rather than left at its default speed, three fans fitted and curved by hand, and a full torture test on CPU, RAM and GPU before it goes anywhere near a courier.

🧬 Built to last, designed to evolve

Built on AMD's AM4 platform. AM4 is mature rather than new, and we will be straight about what that means: there are no future processor generations coming to this socket. What there is, is a very well understood platform with cheap, plentiful parts and a clear step up available inside it. The board has four DDR4 slots with two free and two M.2 slots with one free, so memory and storage both grow without replacing anything, and the Ryzen 7 5700X upgrade in the options below is a real jump in multi-core work whenever you want it. This is a machine to keep and feed rather than one to rebuild around.

  • 6 cores, 12 threads of Zen 3, boosting to 4.4GHz, with 32MB of L3 cache. 65W TDP, though like every modern Ryzen it boosts past that in practice and will pull around 88W with every core loaded
  • The value benchmark that everything else in this class gets measured against. Six fast Zen 3 cores are still comfortably enough for every current game, and at 1080p with a card in this class the graphics card is the limit long before the processor is
  • That peak is still a small heat load, and the tower cooler fitted is rated far beyond it, so it absorbs the boost rather than merely coping with it. No thermal drama, and no need to spend more on cooling to get the performance you paid for
  • Socket AM4, and the Ryzen 7 5700X upgrade below doubles the core count for people who also edit, stream or compile

  • 4 × 6mm direct-touch nickel-plated copper heatpipes through 51 aluminium fins, with a TL-C12C 120mm PWM fan turning up to 1550rpm. Plain black with no lighting, which is the version that belongs in a machine with nothing else glowing in it
  • Rated to 225W, against a processor that peaks around 88W. That gap is the whole point. The fan works at the slow end of its range and stays there, so the loudest thing in this machine at idle is nothing at all. 66.17 CFM and 25.6 dBA at its maximum, which it has no reason to reach here
  • Mounted with Thermalright TF4 paste applied by hand rather than a pre-applied pad, and the fan curve set before it ships
  • 148mm tall, well inside the 165mm the case allows, and it does not overhang the memory slots, so the two free DIMM slots stay easy to get at

  • Dual channel is not a detail, it is the difference. A single 16GB stick in this machine would cost you real frames. Two 8GB sticks is the right way to buy 16GB and it is what we fit
  • DDR4-3200 CL16 is the sweet spot for Zen 3. Faster kits exist and the returns fall away quickly above this
  • 16GB is enough for every current game at 1080p. Two slots are free, so going to 32GB later is a matter of adding a pair

  • Rated at 5,000MB/s or better, fitted in the board's Gen4 slot. Games load in seconds and Windows feels instant
  • QLC rather than TLC, and here is what that means. For loading games, booting Windows and everything most people do, it is indistinguishable. Where QLC gives ground is very long sustained writes, such as moving hundreds of gigabytes in one go, where it will slow down once its fast cache is full. On a machine at this price we would rather put the money in the graphics card
  • We fit 1TB as standard across the whole range rather than varying it by price, so comparing our machines to each other is straightforward

  • DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation is the reason to want a current card at this level. It is doing more of the heavy lifting here than it does further up the range, and in supported titles it is the difference between playable and comfortable
  • NVENC for recording and streaming, with AV1 supported for encode and decode. If you stream, this matters more than the raw frame rate does
  • Ray tracing is available and we will be honest that this is not the tier where you leave it on in demanding titles. In lighter games it is fine

👁️ Transparency notes

• The case has a solid front panel and draws its intake through side vents rather than a mesh face (click or tap to read more)

  A mesh front moves more air, and there is no argument to be had about that. What this chassis does instead is pull air in through large vents down both sides of the front panel, which is quieter, keeps far more dust out and looks cleaner. With a 65W processor and a card in this class there's cooling to spare, and we've verified that in our own stress testing rather than assuming it. If maximum airflow matters more to you than the look, one of our mesh-front builds is the better buy and we'll happily point you at one.

  AM4 is at the end of its life as a new-CPU socket, so the Ryzen 7 5700X in the upgrade options is broadly where this machine's processor ceiling sits. What you get in exchange is a thoroughly proven platform with cheap and plentiful memory, and a machine that costs meaningfully less than the AM5 equivalent. For a 1080p build we think that's the right trade. If you want a socket with a future in it, Coquette Two is the one to look at.

  QLC and TLC feel identical for loading games and booting Windows. The difference shows up in very long sustained writes, where a QLC drive slows once its fast cache fills. On a machine at this price, spending the difference on the graphics card is the better outcome for almost everyone.
